About Us

Running for 12 Years!

John Hutchison and his team at Ceres Butchers had been providing local people and businesses with fresh, quality meat for twelve successful years. When John retired in March 2019, Bob and Jane Prentice of Stagison took over ownership of the butcher shop. This is a great extension of our business based at nearby Downfield Farm, where we farm and process our own meat, and offer abattoir, butchery and meat processing services.

We have kept on all staff members of Ceres Butchers. And David Noble, who has been a butcher with Ceres for over ten years, is our new Shop Manager. We now sell our field-to-fork venison, Galloway beef and Scotch lamb in the shop. We also supply pork from local meat suppliers A & R Paton of Greenhill Farm in Falkirk (Bob’s sister Jean and her family).

Our Plan

Supplying Quality Products

Our plan is to continue supplying top quality products from our new butchers, sourcing all meat as close to home as we can. Including native breed beef from our grass-fed Galloway herd, with as much of it coming from our own farm as possible. We’ll keep on producing delicious pies and puddings on the premises. Delighted to serve the people and businesses of Fife and be part of a fantastic close-knit local community.

Stagison reviews

We believe that the venison from Downfield Farm is the best in the country. By giving our deer the best lives possible, and slaughtering them in the most humane and stress-free environment we can create, we ensure that their meat is delicious. But why on Earth would you just take our word for it?! There are loads of Stagison reviews to confirm what we already know.

Have you herd about our venison eco farm?

Here at Stagison, we take environmental concerns very seriously. The changing climate is something we all need to commit to fixing. It’s something we can all start to do in our daily lives – from wasting less food to buying goods with few (if any) air miles. This is why we are doing everything we can to be an eco farm.

Try A Venison Steak Pie This Hogmanay

Who has heard of having a venison steak pie at Hogmanay? A Scottish Hogmanay can be one of a few things. Some take to the streets and party with wild abandon waiting for the bells. Others enjoy smaller gatherings in the homes of friends and family, watching Jackie Bird dance to Phil & Aly on the telly. Some, of course, head to bed at 9pm and wake up when all the chaos is over with for another year.
