Private Processing

Humane Slaughter

Here at Downfield Farm, we offer private animal processing for sheep, goats, and farmed deer, and our reputable humane abattoir is something we take great pride in. We believe that stress-free meat is tasty meat. Furthermore, we are also Scotland’s only field to fork venison farm, abattoir, and meat processing facility. So as to provide quality venison meat we handle all processing in our custom-built processing plant which includes a private butchery service.

Our Animal Processing Plant

We process your animals by appointment only. So, if you want to use our services, please call or Contact Us to schedule your animals. As such, we generally are booked one or two weeks in advance. And possibly longer during the autumn up to Christmas. So please do plan accordingly so we can work with you!

Your animal(s) need to be here by 12 noon on a Monday or special arrangements can be made to bring them on a Sunday afternoon. The animals need to be tagged accordingly and accompanied by the relevant food chain declaration as well as being clean and dry.

Meat Hygiene Inspection

Your Needs Catered For

We will contact you on a Tuesday afternoon/evening following the Meat Hygiene inspection with details of your weights and any vet comments.  We’ll need some instructions from you on the preferred processing. A Downfield representative will be happy to walk you through your cutting instructions to best suit your needs. If you have any comments or questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Once booked in and processed, we will contact you for your meat collection. All butchered meat is vacuum packed, labelled, and boxed for you. Or if you are collecting a whole carcass it will be wrapped in mutton cloth.  Further, if you would like us to arrange for your meat to be delivered elsewhere in the UK, this can be organised. We work with an overnight courier and package accordingly for an additional fee.
