Venison is growing in popularity. What was once seen as an elite food has become accessible to all. Here on Downfield Farm, we produce and sell our own delicious venison meat. The health benefits of eating venison are huge! Deer meat is high in protein, low in fat and calories, carbohydrate-free, low in sodium and rich in vitamins and minerals. It’s a great alternative to beef, lamb, pork and other red meats. Switching to venison can help you to lose weight and maintain a healthier diet.

Venison has its own distinctive taste. Although somewhat similar to beef, it’s stronger, richer, leaner and smoother. And just like beef, it’s a very versatile meat. You can enjoy a whole venison steak, or use the meat to make sausages, meatballs, burgers, pies, casseroles, kebabs and stews.

Venison has a reputation for being expensive, but in reality, it is often cheaper than beef and many other types of meat.

All our venison meat is free-range and sustainably-farmed. We work hard to understand our environment and work with it, not against it. We recently announced that our farm is going organic. Find out more about the steps we are taking to achieve this.

It’s imperative to us that our processes are humane. Our stags live a happy, free-range life on the farm. They have plenty of space and we work hard to keep them healthy and give them a comfortable living environment. As our abattoir is on-site, there are no long and stressful journeys involved. And we follow strict guidelines to ensure a calm experience for animals within the abattoir.
